As a newbie to ham radio I have been reading recently about small qrp transceivers (Pixie-Micro 80- Tiny Tornado etc) but they seem outdated or obsolete. Is anyone still making these type of kits and which is the smallest and best one?
Ideally UK manufacturers but any country is fine.
Thanks for any help you can give.
depending where you are in the UK depends what shops you have near you, failing that mail order
the old stuff is the best stuff in my eyes and more so when you made it your self

Need a little extra boost for your QRP rig? This nifty little amplifier may be all you need. Believe it or not 20 watts is only 7db (about one S unit!) less power than a full sized commercial transceiver. These compact amplifiers are easily driven by any of our QRP transmitters or any other unit in the 1/2-2 watt range. Advanced power MOSFETs are used for the utmost in efficiency and purity, while…
I know the basics of a Yagi antenna and how it works …. I also know that in a simple Yagi, the driven element is a simple dipole tuned …… I have a CB radio (do not worry I'm a ham at heart) and I wanted a little more Which of the four watts ….. thus making I wanted to build a Yagi for her (I was quite bored) So I crucnhed the numbers and found out that since the frequency of the CB channels is quite low, I would have rather large Yagi, if I wanted a half-wave dipole driven element as my build ……. Can I step like 1 / 4, 1/8…etc. this Dipole build, I can reduce my antenna would be a little, or it just hurt my performance hard ….. I know this would work on a standard vertical dipole but would work as an element Yagi? (In the visualization using a 1 / 4 dipole as the driven element (two 1 / 8 wave wires) to make this work and lower the antenna) also dont go too much in mathematics …. this is not my high point
It is seriously injured your performance, so you never see a CB Yagi antenna. It will work but you have bad interference from full-wave frequencies in your 1 / 4 wave antenna. If you get your SWR, you should cook things even at 4 watts.
