What is the best ham radio setup for me?
I did a while from the field for advice and has been for some hope. I live in a gorge in the desert in the southwest and have an extra class amateur radio license. However, I have not been able to figure out the best setup for me in this new Position. I do not have much help from the local ham club (but I probably did not ask the right people). I sold all my old ham radio equipment many years ago, Yes, I have to start anew. Read my old material to transfers, I could only come up with need to install a huge antenna. I have a 2m radio, but I know do not care for the local communication (unless it is an emergency). I'm in the medium to long distance communication with interested voice / data processing non-voice communication. I can not install an antenna tower due to local restrictions. What kind of setup (or is it even possible) I can for my present situation, at about $ 600?
I do not know if the $ 600 for the rig and antenna, but you can go on eBay to find what you need for a reasonable price do. I do not know where you are, so maybe you can ARRL.org to a local Hamfest point. As for the antenna, I wonder how high the Hill opposite you are and how far away. Can you tilt the front of the work, a beam antenna to a usable angle DX. If you are not using a Yagi, such as wire Beams. Otherwise, maybe you are limited to a vertical or dipole. I have the screwdriver antenna on my car. You have many opportunities to experiment, and with the bands, like them, maybe some time as well.
